SOCI 2445 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Drug Culture, Labeling Theory, Differential Association
Document Summary
Class 5 (theories: the norm is in the eye of the beholder, we have a system that establishes rules and processes, every student is required to set processes that are set by the professors. If you are not satisfied, you can continuously go up the ladder of power: you start where the process starts, whether you are a person charged or not, you have a right to know who the accuser is. Wrongful convictions: the evidence against these people is flawed, and they spent time in prison for something that the(cid:455) did(cid:374)"t do. In criminal law, the proof is beyond a reasonable doubt. It is a very serious topic to be studying: you have to be able to address issues head-on. If it was all theory, it would be very easy. Not everything in the criminal justice system is theory: theory is taught because we need to know about it, but it is not necessarily applied in the real world.
