Document Summary
Knowledge we have obtained in criminology: there are a number of myths in the justice system. People base opinions on what they think: the police are uneducated. They have no formal education in criminology: police can"t tell you about the onset of crime. Most of the training that they get is ineffective: 80% of training is focused on: training, crime control, enforcing laws, violence. 20% of training is focused on mediation, mental health, the canadian charter: o(cid:374)(cid:272)e they are o(cid:374) the streets, e(cid:448)erythi(cid:374)g they"(cid:448)e lear(cid:374)ed is (cid:374)ot (cid:449)hat they a(cid:272)tually do. The bulk of what they do is interacting with members of the public and enforcing the law: we are training the police to go out and do something that they are not trained to do. That is why we see increasing evidence of conflict with the police: the training is out of date, research shows that less than 20% of the population commit more than 80% of the crimes.
