They produced only what they needed, no production or surplus. Power and authority is derived from special knowledge. Power is used to promote the grater good. Power is no longer used for the greater good, it is used for individual luxury. Small surplus is produced - allowing some not to work. Surplus is used for luxury consumption of the elite. Power and authority are acquired through force/ coercion. They are forced to work and feed the higher class. Improved technology allows for the growth of merchant and artisan class. Trade develops and there are more voyages and discoveries. Central governments are formed - representing the elite.
