Foucault on what power is not: (*foucault = key) Foucault said if we just understand power through the structure/institutions, we rent getting the full picture, this doesn"t allow for individuals to have right/movement, etc. in the conversation. Wanted to talk about the state, law, etc. Wanted to see how power emerges or functions. Challenges how we"ve come to understand power. Power = not just domination of one thing over another. Power = not repression of person"s true feelings or interests. Power can"t be possessed (didn"t try to find out who has power) Power = not bad or good, its more complex. Usually talk about a forcing b to do something foucault says when you"re forcing someone to do something with violence it"s more of a loss/threat of power.
