Document Summary
Earthworks- things people do by digging into the ground: come in a variety of forms i. e. mounds societies build. Sometimes we don"t know why they build them but sometimes we do. Samarians built a big mound mud brick structure called a ziggurat, we don"t know for sure what it was for: mounds were built in the new world where what is now known as missouri. When the first europeans arrived the mounds were still there but the europeans ask what they were for and now there is nobody left to tell us why they were built. Most mounds are built as a defence structure with a moat around, so the enemy has to go through the ditch and up the hill. Mounds last a long time but often are not noticeable; they look like hills and we cannot tell that they are manmade unless given an arial view: cairn.
