Cloth: is always made of artificial substances and weaving, a lot of steps involved in making cloth. Making the thread; four ways to make fibers. Main plant fiber they used was flax from which you make linen: flax fibers are strong and coarse; takes less effort to weave, flax was not itchy. When you put a bunch of wool together it all hooks together which is why it felts if you are making thread you want to spin the wool. Quite robust material: other source is cocoons and from that you get silk. What finally killed antioch was the caliphate; lost its business. How did they spin the threat; spun it by hand; they did not have spinning wheels until medieval times. The woman would hold in her left hand something called a distaff and on the distaff she would place some very loosely felted wool, just felted enough it would form a glob like cotton candy.
