Gendered violence occurs in every continent, country and cultural context, and it the most pervasive, but least prosecuted human rights violation worldwide. Forms of gendered violence include domestic violence, sexual harassment, sexual abuse, rape, forced prostitution, trafficking, stalking, honor killing"s dowry associated violence, female genital cutting, and hate crimes directed to particular groups such as lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered, women of colour. Victims of gendered violence are deeply stigmatized in many societies, so many survivors feel shame and humiliation, and are reluctant to report the violence. Violence against women has profound and long-term consequences. Forms of violence may lea to additional health problems such as physical or mental disorders. Violence targeting women in communities may also include forms of violence associated with militarism. Gendered forms of violence always exist alongside, and are sustained by structural inequalities, which must be addressed. A girl named maria goretti was murdered for resisting a rape.
