The linear knowledge is based off of christian metaphysics and westernized knowledge. The western world is based off of one god and he made a plan for the world over time. Ie garden of eden --> the boat/flooding --> gospel --> waiting for the end --> the end. Man is a co-creator of nature since he is made in the likeness of god. Everything in the past is seen as backward, outdated, error or dark. The enlightenment happened because there was a crisis in faith due to earth not being the center of the universe and also the world is not flat. There is a dichotomy between myth and superstition. When you look at something you need to deconstruct it and look at it"s separate parts.
