Document Summary

Biol 467 lecture 16 03/11/2017 horrible presentation lol. P53 makes the de(cid:272)isio(cid:374) if (cid:455)ou"re goi(cid:374)g to do (cid:272)ell (cid:272)(cid:455)(cid:272)le arrest (cid:448)s apoptosis. Slide 2: stops abnormal cells from proliferating. P53 is mediated a response to cell stresses (like dna damage) When a cell is exposed to stress, you start to stabilize p53 and activate it. Then you can have 2 responses to that: live cell cycle arrest, die apoptosis. Likely due to other co-factors coming along to help make that choice. There"s a proposal that (cid:455)ou (cid:272)a(cid:374) ha(cid:448)e differe(cid:374)t (cid:271)i(cid:374)di(cid:374)g sites. It will increase the expression of something like p21 which can bind and regulate a cdk-cyclin. Or it kinda directly upregulate something like bax, or components in apoptotic machinery. Why would it chose a bax promoter over a p21 promoter: could be different affinities. You have a cell that has this damage, this initiates a response through p53.
