Refers to ppl physically close to one another. A temporary gathering of ppl who share a common focus of attention and who influence one another. A highly emotional crown that pursues a violent or destructive goal i. e. the salem witch trials. A social eruption that is highly emotional, violent and undirected. Normally no reason for mass (i. e. playoff hockey riots) Involves ppl who influence one another despite being spread over a large area i. e. social media. Unconfirmed info spread informally, often by word of mouth: Rumor about ppl"s personal affairs, tends to be localized i. e. sprit and flesh by james m. ault jr. (2004) Reveals how gossip is used by women in churches to undermine patriarchal authority.
