Skin, hair and nails: define the following terms:(top) Hair: alopecia= significant loss of hair hirsutism= unwanted male pattern hair growth seen in females. In early clubbing, the angle straightens out to 180 degrees, and the nail base feel spongy on palpation. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. edema= intracellular space accumulation of swelling chloasma= irregular brown patch of hyperpigmentation on the face. Capillary radiations ( legs ) extend from the central arterial body. fissure= linear crack with abrupt edges, extending into dermis, dry or moist senile lentigines= commonly called liver spots, these are small, flat, brown macules (figure 13-21).
