Skin, hair and nails: define the following terms:(top) Hair: alopecia= significant loss of hair hirsutism= unwanted male pattern hair growth seen in females. (upper lip, chest, face) Nails: profile sign= viewing the finger from the side and note the angle of the nail base, should be about 160 degrees clubbing= occurs with congenital chronic, and cyanotic heart disease and with emphysema and chronic bronchitis. In early clubbing, the angle straightens out to 180 degrees, and the nail base feel spongy on palpation. It occurs when the pores of the skin become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. edema= intracellular space accumulation of swelling chloasma= irregular brown patch of hyperpigmentation on the face. Capillary radiations ( legs ) extend from the central arterial body. fissure= linear crack with abrupt edges, extending into dermis, dry or moist senile lentigines= commonly called liver spots, these are small, flat, brown macules (figure 13-21).
