What i want to do is talk about the first 11 or so chapters of machiavelli"s the prince. And we"ll read the second half next week. Look at this book ) just got on political philosophy. My department paid for it it"s very sweet. So machiavelli, we"ve heard his name before maybe some rumors about his teachings. This is a tumultuous period of history considering, well any lifetime in early modern. He wrote this before luther did his thesis. I"ll get into this more deeply later on. seriously as a political theorist. He is important and also notorious, he is not just famous he is infamous. Unlike some philosophers who stay away from politics, machiavelli himself for a period of time was deeply entangled in florentine politics. But )"m mainly focusing on machiavelli"s ideas and his claims why do we take him. The city is beautiful there"s a cathedral but it is one of the epicenters of the renaissance italy.
