History 1100 Making of the Modern World Creative Essay and Term Paper Review Creative Essay • 60 year old person who is writing a memoir about a particular event or era. • The memoir will be the vehicle to show what you have done. • Provide enough detail so that it reads like a memoir • Mainly descriptive • Were you better or worse after it happened? • Was society better? • Come across as a genuine account of that time • Dr. Hebert will provide a main source,  with the role you are to assume  • Sign up for 1 of 4 spots at her topic • 8 pages, double spaced ( not including cover page or annotated bibliography) • Bibliography must have 6 sources, including the 1 main provided ( 6 is the  minimum, not the ceiling) • References: will not be quoting from sources, footnotes will be the source  • Footnotes must be done in the history format • Textbooks and encyclopaedias do not count towards the bibliography minimum • To find good materials, go into the bibliography of your sources Librarian Aid • Books verses journal articles • If looking for primary sources, the subject term is “ sources” • Searching within a book o Take advantage of the bibliographies • RACER: interlibrary loan • Discussion • Critic of colonial policy • Social reformer • Suffragette • Reporter who is following the outbreak of the Spanish Flu • Child Labourer • Austrian women during WW1 • Somebody who was won over othe anti­slavery campaign Heart of Darkness Discussion • What is the heart of darkness  ▯answer both literally and figuratively o Literally: The African continent, specifically the Congo o Dark – unknown o Light = known to us • Summary of key outline of the story o A man wh
