In the end the communists did succeed in controlling all of russia: during the civil war the bolshevik regime transformed russia into a bureaucratic state, the shock of witnessing the collapse of the russian empire, the assassination of the romanovs, the impact of the civil war and the terror of the red terror spread throughout europe, men like hitler, on the other end of the political spectrum were able to exploit the fears brought on by the goings on in russia and use that fear to power their own movements.
