Document Summary

Should know the different areas of ecology. Reflecting different approaches necessary to deal with the different levels of organization. Different fields do not differ in what they study but what they ask. Ecological questions can be asked from many different points of view. Ecophysiology (autecology): studies the response of an organism to its abiotic environment. Study the physiological responses of an organism to it"s abiotic environment. Comparative ecology: investigates interspecific differences in responses to the abiotic environment. The biotic environment consists of all the other organisms surrounding given organism. Community: interactions of organisms of all species in a given area. Community ecology: studies interspecific interactions and the results of these, such as diversity, and species composition. The abiotic environment is strongly modified by other organisms. Organisms are affected by biotic and abiotic environments. Populations: group of individuals of the same species inhabiting a given area. Population ecologists: studies interactions with same species and the results of these interactions.
