Metric volume units: base unit of volume (liter liquid, milliliter gas, cm3 solid) Exact number: a number whose value has no uncertainty it is exactly known. Inexact number: a number whose values have a degree of uncertainty with it. Significant digits: digits in a measurement that are known with certainty plus one digit that is estimated. Number of significant digits = all certain digits + 1: all non-zero digits are significant. Numbers are shown in the form of a x 10^n; where a is a number with a single non-zero to the left of the decimal place and n is a whole number.
