Insect Collection for Forensic Entomological Examination
-Forensic Entomology is the study of insects in a legal context
-urban entomology (ex. infestation)
-stored-product entomology
-medicolegal entomology
Intro
-Modern Forensic Entomology
-Primarily concerned with sudden and unexpected death
-Homicides, suicides, natural death
-Traffic accidents with no apparent cause
-Criminal misuse of insects or insect products
-Estimate of Postmortem Interval (PMI)
-Always assume minimum PMI to ensure accuracy and not assume a maximum
when it could have been shorter as this is an important fact to the case
Why Bugs?
-General
-Body temperature falls, flora/fauna when bacteria proliferates
-Rigour mortis is due to build up of Lactic acid, this is when the corpse hardens
-Autolysis and production of gases

Document Summary
2 midterm quizzes, rst on oct. 21 and second on nov. 27. Quizzes at the beginning of every lab, starting in the second lab, on the previous weeks lab, and will be 5 questions. Will be using scenedoc ( http://scenedoc. com ) Forensic entomology is the study of insects in a legal context. Primarily concerned with sudden and unexpected death. Criminal misuse of insects or insect products. Always assume minimum pmi to ensure accuracy and not assume a maximum when it could have been shorter as this is an important fact to the case. Body temperature falls, ora/fauna when bacteria proliferates. Rigour mortis is due to build up of lactic acid, this is when the corpse hardens. Insects can detect decomposition from farther away then humans. Insects arrive at a corpse very quickly. Utilization of correct insect life cycle data to tell us how the egg, larvae, pupae act,
