Beetle Larvae
-Beetle larvae have pro-legs, which fly maggots do not have
-Scarab beetles larvae
-curled up looking
-Carrion beetle larvae
-Dark and larger, have fringes around the body
-Rove beetle larvae
-Is long with 2 things on the end of the body
-Skin beetle larvae
-Very hairy and smaller
-Feed off of dead skin flakes
-Exuvium is shed skin they leave behind

-Orange/Yellow body parts
-Some look like they’ve been dusted with flour
-Body is flat
-Burying beetles
-Have orange patches on elitra (wing cases)
-thorax has gold hairs on it
-Skin beetle
-looks very hairy
-can cause damage on skin as they eat away at dead skin tissue
-Areas that look like “silly string” is skin beetle waste
-Can be differentiated from wound by looking at edges that are very uneven
-Hairy Rove Beetles
-Very big
-Clown beetles
-look like lady bugs but all black and very oval
-Red-legged ham beetle
-Blue/turquoise body, very small
-Scarab (Dung) beetles
-Very big or small and very robust
-They will eat animal waste

-Maggots migrate away from the body
-Each species is “programmed” to go a certain distance, and then borrow (dig
themselves into a little hole) to grow to pupae
