Crimes may require specific intent (murder, robbery, theft) or general intent (assault, trespassing) Culpable mental state standard may be subjective of objective. Actus reus act (can include omission or failure to do something) R v. sansregret (1985 scc) compares the mens rea of knowledge, reckless, and willful blindness.
