Document Summary

The computer has become an increasingly important aspect of both our work and leisure activities. Ergonomics can be applied to both cognitive and physical issues surrounding computer usage to promote productivity and decrease the likelihood of error. Also optimize postural and visual comfort and decrease the possibility of sustaining musculoskeletal injury. The goal of ergonomics is t improve efficiency (increase productivity, decrease error), health, safety and comfort. Visual and postural discomfort, and possibly musculoskeletal injury, can occur if the layout and lighting of computer workstations are not optimized. The design of modification of workspace layout and lighting to optimize postural and visual conditions is a major application of ergonomics. Workers who are uncomfortable, less productive, and in some instances, injured, through a mismatch of the tasks, equipment and environment that places undue postural and visual demands on the user. Information is presented to user and where the user can manipulate and control the computer system.
