Moral development: concerns rules and values about what people should do in their interactions with other people, internalization. Developmental change from behaviour that is externally controlled to behaviour that is controlled by internal standards and principles. Moral reasoning is controlled by external rewards and punishments. Somebody is this stage doesn"t have their own moral code, based off of what someone told them: stage 1: punishment and obedience orientation. Kid knowing his mom would be mad for stealing a cookie: stage 2: personal reward orientation (individualism and purpose) Not going to steal the cookie but would tell mom he thought about it to try and get a reward: conventional moral reasoning. Internalization is intermediate: staring to get a sense, abiding by the law. Abide by standards, but they are the standards of others. Stage 3: good boy-nice girl orientation (interpersonal norms: value trust, caring, and loyalty to others as basis of moral judgments.
