A process in which we start with speci c facts and try to identify a general principle with which the facts are consistent. A process by which we reason from general principles to reach conclusions about speci c cases. Inductive reasoning tests measure the ability to work exibly with unfamiliar information and nd solutions. People who perform well on these tests tend to have a greater capacity to think conceptually as well as analytically. Deductive is used by researchers who take a general scienti c law and apply it to a certain case, as they assume that the law is true. Applied to problem solving, we take principles assumed to be true and apply them to speci c cases. Step by step procedure for solving a problem. General strategy that might lead to the right answer. Identify the goal (end) of the problem, asses the current situation, and gure out what needs to be done to decrease the difference.
