Everything we do, say, feel, think, etc our behavior relates to our biology: biological psychologists study link between behavior and biology. Mechanism by which information travels in the brain, and between the body and the brain. Neural communication: dendrites receive signal, generates an action potential. Electrical charge (neural impulse) that travels down axon: action potential travels down axon, transferred to nearby neuron. 2: synapse: space between adjacent neurons, neurotransmitters: chemicals that send messages across synapses, release of neurotransmitters (nt) at terminal bouton, absorption of nts ! charge that causes neuron to re, reuptake: re-absorption of excess nts. Types of neurons: sensory neurons: carry signals from sense receptors to brain & spinal cord, motor neurons: carry signals from cns to muscles & glands, interneurons: intervene between sensory & motor neurons and communicate within the cns. The brain and its structures: levels of structure.
