Sensation : process by which sensory receptors and nervous system receive and represent stimuli: elements that combine to form perceptions. Transduction : transformation of one energy type into another. Perception : process of organizing and interpreting sensory info: conscious sensory experience. All-or-nothing neuron does not always re, but when it does, it res to maximum strength: no partial cannon balls. Bottom-up processing begin with sensory receptors, work up to brain"s integration. Top-down processing start with higher mental processes, feedback into lower systems. Psychophysics study of relationship between physical characteristics of stimuli and our psychological experience. Absolute threshold: general de nition: weakest amount of stimulus required to detect its presence, fechner (1860) developed a detection theory. Instant change from not perceiving to perceiving. Absolute threshold: experimental evidence gradual change from not perceiving to perceiving.
