Document Summary

The 14th century is said to be a century of crisis in the history of latin christian europe. The 13th century is cast as a golden age of political power and cultural flourishing. Memorable leaders were innocent iii and frederick ii. Both left impressions in the high middle ages. Same is said for thomas aquinas and bonaventure as well as the dominican and franciscan groups. The 14th century had new key figures important in both political and cultural realms. This was the era of the beginning of the 100 years war. It was also a reconfiguration of french and english power. The hre continued with the guelf and ghibelline infighting. It also had a rivalry with the papacy still. Culturally, this was the era of dante and petrarch, ockham and marsilius and christine de pizan. These cultural luminaries thrived despite the conflicts they were drawn in at the times.
