Christian humanism: finding the early sources of christianity. The bible wasn"t translated into the vernacular at this time and is written in latin. Humanists wanted to go back to the original sources. The writings of the early church fathers during the roman empire when the christian church was legalized: erasmus: considered the prince of humanists. The first scholar to publish a synchronized edition. The original greek and the latin and the commentary that points out alternative meanings: published the "christian soldier"s handbook" with the idea of returning to religious simplicity as taught by christ. A guide for daily life and not just a set of dogmatic beliefs. "in praise of folly" written as a light satire on human imperfection but also a subtle attack on church corruption. Intention was to reform the church from within and not destroy it: martin luther: studying law in germany.
