Settler colonialism: great britain: self governing british settler colonies, or dominions. The irish free state was a dominion from 1922-1931. Newfoundland was a dominion until 1949, when it federated with canada: british residents of zimbabwe dominated the agricultural sector until the early 2000s. Their land was forcibly expropriated by the mugabe regime. The "white highlands", kenya, attracted upper class british agriculturalists. They lived decadent lives of luxury until the mau mau rebellion in 1952. Idi amins" regime expelled indian settlers from uganda in 1972. The hindu temple in nairobi remains a fathering point for kenya"s 80,000 south asians. Many left in the 1960s due to africanization policies. There are 1. 3 million indians in south africa today: the settler colonial template. Violent invasion or expropriation of land leading to the genocide or extinction of native populations. In contrast to sojourner colonies like india or nigeria, settler colonialism leads to a more permanent occupation.
