Islam and philosophy: 1031 years passed between the death of socrates in 399 bce and the death of the. Greek philosophy encountered abrahamic traditions over those centuries. The conquests of alexander the great gave rise to hellenization. The expansion of greek language, literature and culture. Second temple judaism and early christianity were both shaped by this encounter. Greek modes of expression and ways of thinking. In the 7th and 8th centuries, the growth of the islamic world led to the further engagement between abrahamic narratives and greek thought. Narratives about adam, eve, abraham, isaac, ishmael, moses and other patriarchs. These suffused the message of the quran and the hadith literature. Ideas of thinkers like plato and aristotle came alongside these narratives. Plato"s successor in the annals of ancient greek philosophy. The early islamic textual tradition soon featured a vast library of works of philosophy. They aimed to re-explain abrahamic theology in logical terms.
