Most sub-saharan fighting occurred when allied troops invaded germany"s 4 african colonies. It wasn"t terribly big and had one gunboat. Was empty and on shore when found when it was shelled from orders on british high command. Captured less than seaworthy german armed steamers by the royal navy. British troops in german cameroon (west africa): african war dead. Said to be almost a scandal of a death but those who died were african porters; racism. It exposed the underbelly of the central powers. It was hoped to divert attention from flanders by invading the ottomans. The campaign was an utter disaster and almost ruined the career of winston churchill. The goal was to puncture ottoman forces at the daranelles, sail to the black sea, and link up with russian forces, then invade the ottoman empire in the east, and germany as well.
