PSYC-105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 20: Crisis Hotline, Clinical Psychology, Psychological Intervention
Document Summary
Most people go into therapy to help them make themselves more aware of their personality, sex therapy, couples therapy, or to help/heal them from addictions and disorders. A psychological intervention designed to help resolve emotional, behavioural, and interpersonal problems, and improve their quality of life. Every 1 in 5 people will receive in some point of their life some form of counselling or therapy. About 4% is in treatment at any given time. Men, minorities, and those with ses are typically underserved. This is largely due to the stigma about going to a therapist as some men think it"s weak to talk about their emotions and it"s expensive. Therapy works just as well for men and everyone else. Primarily clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, counselling psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses. They tend to work with addictions and couples therapy. Some social workers get training in psychotherapy depending on what program. Same with psychiatric training depend on high or low training.
