Descriptive research: note characteristics of a social group or phenomena. Explanatory research: clarify aspects of something already researched. Evaluation research: evaluates social programs (governments are interested in this) Empowerment research: improve conditions of a certain social group that has been identified as marginalized or something of this sort. Literature review: sociological database, look for area in your topic that needs more attention. Research design: outline key components, like goals and methods used. Data collection: apply concrete methods, go into the field and actually do the research. Participant shocking other subjects (actors) when scientist told them to. Told that he wanted to know how punishment influences remembering and learning. Goal was to find out how much others will follow authority. Ethically wrong: psychologically harmful to participants in the fact they know how far they will go. They were misleading to a large degree and lied to.
