SOCI-325 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Nils Christie
Document Summary
Nils christie argument on conflict: his main argument is that we should be thinking about conflict differently than we currently do. As property, as something that has value to us. He argues that we tend to think of conflicts as something we want to get rid of it. Conflicts have a lot of value for the people involved: we shouldn"t want to get rid of them, but keep them and use them. Argues conflict is stolen property and is being stolen from us. As the people who are directly involved: there are 2 main ways they are being stolen, by professionals: done in 2 ways by 2 different groups of professionals. Some professionals, primarily lawyers, steal our conflicts from us and make them their own conflicts. Whether the disputes are civil or criminal, the conflict is taken from the rightful owners, the impacted and involved, and it becomes their property.
