Gender is about the beliefs and values that tend to be seen as appropriate for a particular biological group. If we lived in a world where gender didn"t matter, then we would see men and women in equal numbers occupying virtually every type of job, occupation, in the world. We still tend to see segregation wherever we look. We still for example tend to see men and usually white men being the head of corporations or the dominant face of police and firefighting. Women who go into those occupations often face tremendous resistance from the status quo. Any women who join careers seen to be masculine and dominated by the white man. These come from the wider beliefs which influence the way people behave: masculinity and femininity. More likely to be performed by men in groups. Emotional (especially on the time of her month). Cannot be expected to make big decisions. Is expected to be a nurturing housewife, not working.
