SOCI-325 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Making Money, Town Crier
Document Summary
All cultures have some way of transmitting information to the people that the government feels the people should know about. The newspaper was one of the earliest forms of the media. Social media, television, etc, now goes way beyond and is hugely influential on how we behave: sport. All cultures over place and time have some system to keep the people healthy in ways that are needed for the good running and upkeep of that society. In some indigenous cultures in north america were relatively stable, but the majority were somewhat nomadic. The animal hunting tended to be done by young males. You needed to be in good physical shape to be out hunting animals. Lacrosse, for example, is a way in keeping the player in tip top physical form and were not restricted geographically, going on for days and days. Lacrosse players roam all over, and the sport itself has ties to indigenous cultures.
