Culture wars: art, activism, and politics in the 1980s and 90s. Politicization of art practices from the 70s onward heavily influenced by feminism. Art with social change as a goal. Activism and art tied to existing activist groups: participation to collaboration. Activist art defined by media techniques: must use media to reach a more diverse audience. Krzysztof wodiczko (1943-: most known for making large scale video projections as an intervention into public space, often using corporate buildings, public spaces cityscape as canvas, hirschhorn museum, transforms buildings into bodies. Interested in critiquing mainstream news and corporate entertainment media.
