Document Summary

Lecture - march 16: = suffering and the 4 noble truths. > ex: a grade on a test, buying something wanted directly connected to ego gratification (both happiness and sadness come from the ego) The cause to suffering is ignorance (self delusion) and attachment. > self delusion: you"re taking your own self and imposing it on everything around you. You place judgements on everything (i. e. walk outside and say it"s cold , wake up at 6am and say it"s early ). We think this is objective but really it is subjective = ignorance, which is connected to attachment. Suffering can end, something can be done about this suffering, you must follow the path of cessation (explained below) The path of cessation: buddhism (the eightfold path) everything followed must be to remove the self from suffering. There is also a threefold path; three learnings : wisdom, morality, concentration (just another way of looking at the eightfold path).
