We have a tendency to assume moral superiority and to judge other people, we feel other people should be honest all the time, if they act otherwise we become angry about that because they are being hypocrites. Gregers learns that the entire ekdal household is a house of lies constructed by his father, he is like an audience member in that he feels like the truth should come out. Dr. relling sees molvik as a daemon; who is really just a drunk priest. His theory; the "life-lie" refers to the idea that everyone should have some central fiction that allows them to function as a person. There"s an argument between integrity and honesty & necessary lies and fiction in the play. Relling gave hjalmar the life-lie that he is a great inventor, hjalmar never really believed it himself but he wanted to believe it because his daughter believed in him.
