Document Summary

Stanley was the character that was most sympathized with over blanche by most viewers who watched the play. Tennessee williams made a claim of having sympathy to all characters and all people despite who they are. The play is not a didactic one, he suggests that there are no hero"s and villains in the play so we aren"t expected to take sides, leaving us to our moral compasses to figure things out for ourselves. Blanche as a character is a very fragile and damaged person who has had a difficult past and because of that is damaged in someway. The more we learn about the characters in the play, the more our perspective of them changes along the course of the play. This play reveals our own biases and prejudices in that we decide what to we want to think about the characters.
