Only 50% identified = wrong way to die: bridged divide between battles and homes, diseases travelled rapidly. Because of the latrines and close quarters diseases were spread quickly: mourning and burial rituals interrupted. Some soldiers died in semi-clean wards, if lucky a volunteer nurse would read the bible, and if she could write, maybe send a letter back home to family.
