Definition of a patent: exclusive right of exploitation of an invention for a certain number of years. There is a growth of the value of intangible assets of companies since 1976. What we have noticed is that a lot of start-ups get equity financing ( angel"s financing ). When a company get more and more value, a bank will look at the value of its ip and then, maybe lend money this is debt financing. As opposed to tangible assets, which are said to have an intrinsic value, intangible assets are viewed as more volatile whether still true are not.
