PSYC 212 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Really Red, Principles Of Grouping, Agnosia
Document Summary
Items will group if they appear to be part of the same larger region. Items will tend to group if they are connected. Ex: perceive as 4 pairs of dots instead of 5. Carving an image into regions of common texture properties. Texture grouping depends on statistics of textures in 1 region vs another. Ex: vertical vs horizontal lines so perceived as diff pattern. Ex: gray chunks in middle = not same size [larger] compared to surround so able to detect diff. Perception = involves figuring out which interpretation of reality is most likely *need to infer. Demon committees = must integrate conflicting opinions & reach a consensus on what perceive. Accidental viewpoint viewing position that produces some regularity in the visual image that is not. Present in the world *need to make sense even if infinite possibilities. Ex: square of 4 colors = can be irregular rectangles at different distance/size/tilt angle.
