PSYC 215 Lecture Notes - Lecture 14: Mind-Wandering, Life Satisfaction, Stationary Point
Document Summary
Appreciation for the positive things others do for you. Participants wrote about things that made them feel grateful (5 things) once a week for 9 weeks. Those who reported things they were grateful for, had an overall higher level of well-being. Greater parent and teacher-rated cheerfulness -> higher mortality risk. High positive emotion in breast cancer patients -> higher mortality risk. Could underreport your symptoms and miss out on the help needed. When others" comments, actions, or mere presence, can influence your own actions, thoughts, or feelings. Changing one"s behaviour or beliefs in response to pressure from others. May be something you are not consciously aware of. Going out and figuring out how to dress in a certain style. It"s encouraged to not conform and to be your own individual self. Standing in a line rather than all rushing in a store. We look at others in order to shape our behaviour.
