Document Summary

How easy it is for you to retrieve important self-attributes. How clear those self-attributes are and how confident you are about them. A single part of the self is core/chronically activated. Extent to which one"s actual self is consistent with ideal and ought standards of one"s own and of others (e. g. , mother, father, etc. ) Clarity and lack of discrepancy generally associated with better outcomes. Number of self-aspects (attributes, roles, relationships, goals, etc. ) Self-aspects are activated in the context of relevant experiences and these experiences impact how the self is viewed. Positive experience: self-aspects activated will be associated with positive feelings. Negative experiences: self-aspects activated associated with negative feelings. Two major implications: spillover (co-activation of related self-aspects) If something bad (or good) happens in one domain, it"s less likely to spread if there"s little overlap/higher complexity. Less spillover for larry: affect extremity hypothesis: Those lower in self-complexity will experience greater mood swings in affect and self-appraisal in response to life vents.
