SOCI 235 Lecture Notes - Lecture 5: Can Opener, Beverage Can
Document Summary
When you put a beverage in a can then you sell it and pressure increases. Need something that can handle this kind of pressure. Make it as thin as possible in a way that it keeps its structural integrity. Top of can has to be fairly strong- has a thicker metal. The top is the smallest point so companies don"t have to pay as much for the thick metal. You used to them with a church key, but you need to always have one incase you need it. If people don"t like carrying it, so now they have the flap system. Initial pop tops, you could pull and through it away - really bad for the environment. Was consumer tested in florida and worked out super well. Pins hurt a lot so not very useful. Paperclip in 90"s was one of the first paperclips. Some circumstances where it"s not the best way for the commercial avenue.
