Philippe bourgois- an american anthropologist and spent 2. 5 years doing eld work by living with crack dealers in east harlem (poverty stricken region in manhattan) ! He learned was the pervasive rates of poverty and inability to attain higher education lead to situation where there are no other opportunities to get out ! He wants to understand how racism affects this community! Studies ancient dna, looks at health & disease in past ! He was able to sequence genome for the black death !
