We were talking about cargo cults, most came about as a result of colonialism, and troops ! Prince philip movement- duke of edingburogh, wife of queen elizabeth ! After they visited, cargo cult emerged (said prince philip became charismatic leader) ! Prince philip is seen as a benevolent creature, celebrated on the island ! When he became aware, he signed them autographs etc! They believe that praying in honour to him it"s gonna bring him back ! They all involve syncretism (blending of all kinds of religions) ! How all early religions formed through blending of new ! What we"re seeing is a result of globalization, we are seeing increase in level of knowledge and interest in other cultures! Increasing interconnectedness because of changes in technology ie. internet! Accelerating as a result of free trade agreement ! Started when columbus discovered new world ! What we see, is this leads to increasing rates of cultural appropriation/cultural borrowing!
