Hsp90 is heat shock protein that doesn"t allow the misfolded protein to get ubiquinated which means that the proteasome is not able to recognizes the misfolded protein for degardadtion. Therefore, patients with protein misfolding disorders and cancers have a high levels of hsp90. In cancer cells p53 acts as a prionoid. Prpc acts as a substrate which the pathogenic prpsc proteins convert into pathogenic prpsc proteins use prpc proteins as substartes which are converted into the virulent. Anti-prions can used which are basically artificial harmaless, self replicating prpsc proteins that would compete with the pathogenic prpsc proteins. Despite the complex nature of prd and other protein aggregation disorders there are many theraputic measures that are being clinically tested in vitro and on model organisms such as mice and hamsters. The effect of these treatment methods on humans is yet to be determined.
