Blind people: tend to lead to more depression, tend to fall. The cost is much more than treating their visual function. There are two diff doctors for the front of the eye and the back of the eye. One of the most used application for biomaterials (lots of opportunities) If we live long enough, you will likely get a cataract. Blue or green eyes will need cataracts first. They replace the lens with something that will help them see. Cataract: any opacity or loss of transparency of the lens. Uv from sun degrades a part of the eye. Biggest is dry eye (38%) , second biggest is cataracts (30%) Cornea is the most innervated tissue in your body. Dye is added so they can see where to work (since eye is transparent) Viscoelastic is added to make it more viscous and slippery. Ultrasound vacuum system is used to break up the lens.
