Great poets faced religious crisis- self assurance that romantics had was not something they could access. Romantic poets countered and had negative view of the establishment. Poets are struggling with this idea of doubt- they"(cid:396)e a (cid:272)u(cid:396)ious (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:271)i(cid:374)atio(cid:374) of science and faith. As a result of the conflicts, they tend to be despondent and introduce melancholy into their texts. Educated at oxford or cambridge, literally caught in the middle of faith and science- poetry reflects the idea of being caught, not knowing exactly what they"(cid:396)e doi(cid:374)g/(cid:449)he(cid:396)e they"(cid:396)e goi(cid:374)g. She lives separate from reality, separated from world outside of her confines. In a reflection in a mirror she sees lancelot and becomes attracted to him and the world outside- where the poem starts. Business and activity on the road to camelot, but the lady is on an island by herself.
