Latitude, proximity to water (continental vs. costal), elevation, precipitation, ocean currents. Marine climate, influenced by the pacific ocean, wetter winter. Orographic precipitation: liftering of warm air over a mountain barrier. The pacific cordillera: higher elevation (lower temp, higher precipitation of leeward side of mountains. Interior situation allows for continental climate with hot summer and cold winter. Site of polar and tropical air current convergent, precipitation decreases from east to west. Humid continental climate, great lakes produce a moderating effect of winter temps. Sub area of the great lakes and st. lawrence basin. Influenced by ocean currents -> warm water from caribbean and cold water brought by labrador. Total darkness in winter, total daylight in summer.
